Warren's
apprenticeship a successful partnership
Warren
always wanted to be a diesel mechanic, working with trucks. He needed to
get an apprenticeship to get the qualifications and training he needed to
achieve his goal. Working with his Link Personnel Employment Co-ordinator,
he was able to become an apprentice heavy vehicle mechanic.
Each year,
people are selected from over 7000 applicants and a rigorous interview
process. Warren is now in his third year of his
apprenticeship. He currently works at the Brisbane City Council's Toowong Workshops
/ Bus Depot but is rotated to other Depots for a
variety of training on various other buses and accessories such as
engine servicing and refitting after reconditioning, wheels, brakes and
tyres, electrical circuits, air conditioners, compressed air
systems and suspensions.
Supervisors have taken the time to help him
through the tough bits. Steve Hills and his training and development
section have also structured his timetable for TAFE studies to ensure
Warren has every chance of success. TAFE tutors have also spent extra
time helping Warren when necessary. Warren also has the support of his
family, particularly Dad, Trevor, who also works in the mechanical
field.
